thank you queen

Tuesday 9 June 2009

it sure is funny how the queens birthday isn't actually on the queens birthday long weekend.. do you think that shes happy about that? i think she would be. she gets a long weekend for nothing.
i wonder if she made full use of the long weekend.. do you think she was at we love sounds? probably was huh.. i wonder if she managed to stay sober enough to get to bobmo at the epic we love sounds after party at the arthouse.

actually, to be honest i don't really care if she was there or not (i have a feeling that she wasn't anyway). all i care about is me getting well and truly sloshed at aforementioned after party and the exchange of many a comedown-core (cd-c) song the next day.

on this occasion the cd-c exchange was lively and invigorating with much schooling and education happening on all sides. although i feel like i shared some warm musical laser, im kinda kicking myself that i didnt give justus kohncke a run.

for those of you unfamiliar with the work of justus kohncke, i would say that he lurks in some damp and dark alley close to the homes of spiritcatcher and the junior boys.. diverse, expansive electronica with a twisty twist.

his album 'safe and sound' from last year contains so many different ideas and subplots that it sometimes seems hard to keep up with, but it really is good. and it really is a treat to have on during a painful sunday.. if i could have last sunday again, this is what i would have played..

Justus Kohncke - Parage

Justus Kohncke - Yacht

do you get a vibe on the diversity of the album? i sure did. 'parage' is all rich upbeatness while 'yacht' focuses in on snow-swept expanse and grandeur..

this robert babicz remix is pretty swell as well with some nice bada-bing like strip strip action and some nice minimal tech percussion.. i think i miss out on a lot of that seeing as though i am a 'house man' (thank you jess)

i thought it may have been more feral.. i think that the peeps there should hold their heads up high- the disgustingness was kept to a minimum.. tolerably messy and really fun
