a pride

Wednesday, 8 July 2009

tonight is (or should be) a big night for every single australian in the world. it is the first day of the first test in the 2009 edition of the ashes.
for those foreigners that arent aware of the ashes, read all about them here. the rest of you better have your asses parked in front of a radio or television that is broadcasting the cricket. or else.

here to help stir some aussie pride is melbourne two-piece gypsy and the cat. their dreamy brand of electro-folk has stirred plenty of aussie pride in me tonight, and i think it may well do the same for everyone else. they certainly do a better job than lleyton hewitt.

Gypsy and the Cat - Jona Vark

Gypsy and the Cat - 'Til Tomorrow

how perfectly and delicately crafted are these beats? the sunny guitars and vocals would sit just nicely alongside junior boys or whitest boy alive at your next sunday sesh..
with production this clean and refined, i was really surprised that there werent a whole stack of live dates on their myspace. hopefully they have some in the pipeline, cos i think this music would be sublime with a glass of wine and some dim, soft lighting.

hmm actually.... maybe promoters are reluctant to book them cos of the high number of fanatics that would show up? maybe aussie pride isnt the best thing.
