down to a post a week.. the ol' time cupboards are evidently looking a little bare. apologies.
being so heavily snowed under with work has really seen my musical selections enter much deeper waters of late..
one release that i have been particularly getting in to during this deep transition has been 6th borough project's (aka the revenge/aka craig smith) album "one night in the borough". its plentiful samples and slow groove really bring artists like the avalanches and dj shadow to mind.. its deep, hypnotic disco and stripped down funk is impossible to fault.
iznae is one of the more upbeat tracks on the album with some beautifully soft pads and synths which slowly gather to form a subtly compelling d-floor toetapper.

another release i have been excited about recently has been motor city drum ensemble's dj kicks mix. it also is a rather deep, sophisticated affair - much deeper than i expected.
the slight jazzy twinge in this bunch of songs really goes down well - and when artists like robert hood and aphex twin are brought to the party, things get even better.
mcde's "dj kicks" exclusive "l.o.v.e" perfectly encapsulates the smooth, slightly jazzy vibe on this mix, but it is the b side to the "l.o.v.e" release called "basement l.o.v.e." that i really wanted to share today. the pure jazz elements - double bass, sighing drums, warbling keys and plenty of finger clicks - combine to create all kinds of fun:

and to finish us up, here is a remix of when saints go machine's "fail forever" by blakkat.. the profoundly simple, deep melody, throaty vocals and strict four to the floor beat take me back to the stone cold '95 classic "new day" by round two (which i posted here). highly recommended friday listening:
