Double Hill, Sleep D & BB & Q Band

Saturday, 12 May 2012

"Balmy" Helsinki seems to have gotten me comfortably settled in this deep thing for the past week or so. Great stuff. Organic, warm, instrument filled electronica gets the girls these days. That's what they say anyway.

I've come into it about a year late, but Double Hill's early 2011 EP 'Wanna Get' has been blowing my socks off of late. Incredibly smooth, deep and with a really warm, organic feel, these beats have rightfully been popping up all over Wolf + Lamb and Soul Clap mixes for the past year.
I think my highlight though was probably the title track 'Wanna Get'.. The soft horns and gently insistent bassline gets me everytime:

Your weekend won't be any good without the entire 'Wanna Get' EP. Pick it up here. Every purchase comes with a Blouse gold star of approval

Disco Delicious' Death Strobe Records have struggled to put a foot wrong since they opened their doors last year. Following impressive releases by Domeyko & Gonzalez and Midnight Savari are Melburnians Sleep D and their exquisitely deep, deliciously titled 'Bacon' EP.
I seriously don't know where to start with this release.. Without sounding ass-kissy, each song is a highlight for me. Full of subtle melodies, occasional 90's vibes, pianos, driving snares, and warm basslines, 'Bacon' really is top shelf and deserves plenty of attention amongst the burgeoning deep house and techno community. The title track should give you a good indication of the quality on this thing:

I strongly suggest that you not only check out the other tracks on this release, but also shell out a couple of gold sovereigns to get this for your very own.

And, in the spirit of winding things up on a funkier note, here is a mix of B.B. & Q. Band's "Dreamer". Pure Curtis Hairston inspired electro-soul goodness from '86.. Have a good weekend!
