Photo by Hobo Gestaporecently i have been noticing heaps and heaps of awesome
'mixed gender' and female electronic music.. definitely a good thing. definitely a RAD thing..
I don't think that any of it is particuarly new.. but its new for me and i wanna share the female luurv.
first up is
Zeigeist.. I don't know much about this band but i do know that they are made up of 2 lads and 1 ladette.. and that their AWESOME album 'The Jade Motel' came out earlier this year..
Zeigeist - Tar HeartZeigeist - Dawn NightZeigeist - Black Milkfor some reason i immediately drew parallels between Zeigeist and
the Knife.. probably just because they're both distinctly swedish sounding with distinct, swirling (if slightly quirky) female vocals.. i think Zeigeist are far more accessible though.
The catchy electro synths really work together to create an amazing electronic soundscape while the vocals seem to complement, rather than dominate the beatzz.. LOVE IT.. too many good tracks
second up is the perenially wicked
Ladytron.. ive just got my hands on their new album Velocifero..
Ladytron - Deep BlueLadytron - Ghosts (Toxic Avenger Remix)Ladytron - Burning UpI didn't particularly find this album THAT amazing- there are definitely a few quirky electronic bittys on this album that perhaps i couldnt get my head around on the first few listens- but there are definitely some awesome moments.
right this second im loving the way that 'deep blue' seems to wash over me (as gay as that sounds) in the same way that 'embrace' by pnau did. the singers (Mira and Helena) have some sort of regality to their voices which is kinda upliftingly good..
Modular dahhhhllliinnkk
Ladyhawke is another notable female inclusion.. im sure everyone reading this will have heard of her on the blogs- thanks probably to the
fred falke and
van she tech remixes flooding ye olde blogton..
im not gonna post those remixes here-
Ladyhawke - Back Of The VanLadyhawke - Paris Is Burning- i just want everyone to remember the awesome original tracks that spawned these remixes.. i love them.
mostly because of her voice- how awesome is it?!!? kinda exactly like stevie nicks mkII- it was SO effortlessly strong on
'embrace' by pnau. the 80's synth pop thing is cool too but i can almost see that becoming old sometime in the near future..
and finally SO relevant but also to just score some blog brownie points..
Lykke Li - Let It FallLykke Li - My Lovesuch a blog darling at the moment- the new feist!! best ever..
LOVE HER..
