the avalanche of quality new music in 2010 is somewhat shocking. it seems that i barely have time to calm myself after an excellent release before i find myself again pulling out my hair over something new.

take this goldfrapp remix by greg wilson for instance: probably the closest thing to perfection ive heard all year. it came up on wilson's bestival promo mix and when i heard it, i was literally stopped in my tracks. you may call them cheesy, but epic, emotion-laden strings twist my dials every time.
apparently it wont be properly released for a while, so i took some initiative and sliced it out of the bestival mix for your listening pleasure..

another cause for major excitement in blouse land has been the release of todd terje's 'remasters of the universe'..
there may be a few tracks and mixes on 'remasters...' that have been floating around for a while, but there are also some rare bits and bobs that i didnt even know existed.. like this version of 'all that she wants' by ace of base that he made under the name 'chuck norris'. it may be so so simple, but that familiar, smooth, rolling bassline coupled with reverby snares are a match made in musical heaven.

Chuck Norris (aka Todd Terje) - All That She Wants

grab terje's 'remasters of the universe' here.. you know its worth it.

ichisan and nakova dropped their debut long-player 'yugo tempo' on us not long ago and as expected, it is a really solid effort. i was perhaps expecting more grand, sweeping compositions (considering ichisan is on board), but in their place is bubbling, raw and suitably cosmic funk. 'tarantela' comes from the darker side of the album and features an array of stringed instruments - expect banjos and twangy guitars before the strings tie it all together.

Ichisan & Nakova - Tarantela

grab 'yugo tempo' by ichisan and nakova here..

this new pollyn/paul simon edit ambushed me while i was writing this post.. i havent listened to paul simon in quite some time, and hearing his innocent voice again was really good. pollyn hasnt changed things up too much here, instead allowing simon's voice and melodies take the spotlight..

ok time for a chill post.. i know its thurs and i should be listening to bangerzz (and in the last 30 mins and after 3 beers i have been) but today def feels like a chill day.. (or maybe that spiel was merely segue into my posting some wicked chilled beats ive been listening to recently..)

i got my hands on the new goldfrapp album, 'seventh tree' earlier this week and have been blasting.. or quietly playing it ever since. it seriously is amazing..
its not as sassy or upbeat as the other goldfrapp music that ive heard in the past but it sure is good.
the album as a whole is still quite playful (as is the goldfrapp way) but has a large amount of majestic-ness added to it, thanks mostly to the classy strings and ambience that they have added.
classy is actually the best word to describe this new album.. either that or some word like relaxing that conveys more..
chilltastic? relaxabulous? chillaxastion? (my status on facebook and msn was 'steve has been falling asleep in the besst possible way" for the whole week..)

Goldfrapp - Clowns

Goldfrapp - Little Bird

to accompany these chilled beats are more chilled beats.. i know it seems very obvious that listening to chilled music all day makes you relaxed but jeeezz.. feeling pretty relaxed at the mo'.. would rather be chilled like this then all pent up like iam after a day of bangers.

The Tings Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go (Classixx Remixx) thanks to palms out

Sam Sparro - Sally (Soul Warriors Remix

Alan Braxe - Penthouse Serenade

plus- a late addition

Rubies - I Feel Electric (feat Feist) (Tie Dye Version)

AMAZING- one of the best chilled songs ive heard for ages- totally debilitating.

and, as a bonusbonusbonus here is a track that has been on high rotation for me ever since i heard it for the first time on the cut copy fabriclive.. for some reason the simplicity in the relationship between guitar and bass really gets me off... ooo yeaa..
even if you dont like the whole track- its worth listening to for the when the bass first kicks

The Faint - Your Retro Career Melted (Ursula 1000 Remix)

wow i dont think ive been this excited for a weekend in a long time.. seriously cannot wait for the Exposed first birthday tonight! woooot...

as this week draws to a close so too does my promo cd.. pretty excited by that.. i think my fave part of the whole shebang was choosing the slow down songs toward the end..
i dont really know why but some songs really strike me as 'end of dj set' or 'end of dj mix' songs. ive heard a couple of really nice ones recently as well..

The Sound of Arrows - Danger! (Cotton Crew Remix)

Goldfrapp - Happiness (Rex The Dog Remix)

i think that a last song should be quite an emotional song, with heaps of nice synth-ee bits over the top. i think it should preferably be in a minor key.
i think the cotton crew remix is looking like a likely candidate at this stage- such a nice song- not to sound corny or anything but for some reason it reminds me of disgusting morning light shining through a window after a massive night.. bad in a good way... (or is it good in a bad way..?)

however.. something VERY good in a VERY good way is the madness that will ensue tonight.. if your reading this and live in canberra- come down to transit bar tonight- it will be so much fun your head will probably fall off.

i think i will pass on some bangers to leave you with on this awesome friday.

Supabeatz - Alchemy whats up with "Supabeatz"???

autoKratz - 1000 Things

Ascii Disko - Until The Light Takes Us

YEAAAHHHH bangers.. bang bang bang bang SIIZZZZLLLEEERRRRSSS
haha these tracks are your typical electro bangers-- very repetitive but somewhow very compelling.. i like these ones in particular because they seem to have some sort of indie edge to them.. i dont really have anything to qualify that but whatever- put them on when you get home still munting tonight or whenever and annoy some neighbours
