feeling a little bit excited today. might be because i am in the middle of a two (2) day week.. or maybe its because the songs im about to post are really f'ing good. hmm..

first up is a slice of hot disco fire from pete herbert and the awesome reverso 68.
sampling eartha kitt's '84 classic 'where is my man', this edit captures the glamourous life of 80's disco.. strings, throbbing basslines and kitt's distinctive vocals kicking in toward the end of the track. love when they do that:

Reverso 68 - Earthy Powers

'earthy powers' features on reverso 68's 'well heeled' release. grab it here.

and here is another awesome blast from the past courtesy of 80's heart-throbs heaven 17 and modular-crew-dj-assistant dream time.
the timeless nature of so many old tracks always shocks me.. i first heard 'penthouse & pavement' on a metro area dj mix and instantly scrambled to find who had done the remix.. when i saw that it was an original my head imploded a little bit.
so into the wacked out percussion, slap bass and girly vocals in the chorus.
dreamtime extends it out a bit and funks up the composition, but it is pretty much left as is.. defs worth a listen!

Heaven 17 - Penthouse & Pavement (Dream Time Remix)

anoraak will finish up this post nicely.. this remix for pacific! is a slice of chilled filter house straight from the valerie/french house era.
really really nice, strong melodic base with the typical slick, smooth anoraak production. the vocals work so well in this mix as well.
looking for a way to ease into your friday? this might be it..

Pacific! - Unspoken (Anoraak Remix)

preorder pacific!'s unspoken ep here it will be out on the 18th of april.

the theme for tonight is definitely dreamy lush synth-pop. i dont know why that is, but it is probably something to do with me losing all the music on my ipod. (actually, that argument is a little weak as this theme pretty much applies to every night of my life, but whatever- lets roll with it.)

the first piece of definite dreamy lush synth-pop comes from the master of such things: monsieur anoraak. it is called 'make it better' and features on a superb compilation of french electronic artists called 'edges' that was released in mid-june (get it here).
as could be expected, this track is pretty excellent. it would certainly be the only song to play at a party held in the shadows of a pink neon sign somewhere 'downtown'.

Anoraak - Make It Better

the only criticism i have of anoraak (and indeed of the valerie collective in general) is that all of their music sounds so similar. similar synths, similar drums, similar vibe.
but when they do it so damned well, who am i to complain??

this remix of miami horror by cyndi seui was definitely one of the best ones on the bravado remixes package.. yes, even better than fred 'evergreen' falke's effort.

Miami Horror - Don't Be On With Her (Cyndi Seui Remix)

the funky slap-bassline and cool valerie styled synths join hands and skip around the quadrangle in such a way that it is pretty much impossible to get your eyes off them. i love it in a jealous kind of way.

fingers crossed my ipod will be operational for work tomorrow

it certainly was not for me. having your laptop stolen is neither fun nor good. im sure there are one or two people out there that would say 'yes it was amazing for me'. and to those people i say 'you are shit'.

amongst the millions of people worldwide that dont care about my laptop getting stolen are xinobi and moulinex. although they may be nice people, i think that they would be way too distracted by their burgeoning success. they are defs two of the only blog stars that i get excited about. to see this new slice of moulinex and xinobi magic in my inbox when i got kates puter was very nice indeed.

to be fair, this slice was actually a remix done by esto which won a competition put on by moulinex and xinobi's label discotexas. i can totally see why as well- turning moulinex and xinobi's brooding and hard hitting electro sounds into an upbeat, joyful electro disco number was no mean feat.

Moulinex & Xinobi - Discotexas Theme (Esto! Remix)

hooray for esto!
hooray for anoraak- cant wait to see you in two weeks.. they also have put their glittering touch to this duo- totally glamifying what was already quite glam for an electro track.. i swear they are all geniuses. the throbbingly ascending arpeggio is breathtaking. (haha)
