sorry for the radio silence.. to say that it has been busy around these parts recently would be an understatement..

mixtapes are an ideal music finding medium when short of time.. i find that having other people/djs do all the scouring for you is occasionally a nice thing.
i know ive already recommended the allez allez mixtape series, but im going to do it again. not only is it consistently awesome, but it gives me perfect segue into introducing allez allez (the band) who were from belgium in the 1980's..
they had a mini revival last year when they released their 'best of' which featured remixes by aeroplane, lindstrom & prins thomas and optimo. this little gem however, shows just how good they were in their own right.. such an influential sound..

Allez Allez - Turn Up The Meter taken down by request

'turn up the meter' should only be played at parties with lava lamps and flares. in the 1970s. incredible. in case you havent already, grab the best of allez allez here.

on a slightly more blog-house friendly note, here is a remix that burns recently made for his main man frankmusik. it has been floating little while and to be honest, i cant really work out why it has only been blogged minimally.. some truly uplifting pianos to iron out your wrinkled tuesday.

one person who i know for a fact hasnt had a quiet last couple of months is burns. it really seems as though a new burns track or remix pops up on a weekly basis, and im sure a lot of people will agree that that is often a good thing.

i think that those same people would agree that burns' only shortcoming is that he sometimes (not always) seems to flog a brand of electro/whatever that is a bit dated and the tiniest bit generic..
his new track 'heartbeats' however has no such problems..

Burns - Heartbeats

rocking an entirely timeless, almost french house sound, 'heartbeats' is perhaps burns' best work to date.. the epic, soaring guitars and uplifting bassline really were a treat for me today and are going to rock me all the way through to 6pm (baby) (ohh yeah).. if you enjoyed 'music sounds better with you' then definitely check this track out.

if youre in the mood for something a little heavier (it is friday after all) then check out this remix burns did for white lies.. all hard and fidgety with a sprinkle of mid-90's spice

White Lies - Death (Burns Remix)

it may not be the freshest sounding song, but i think people on a dancefloor at 2am would enjoy it.. i know i would

you know one reason why a lot of people really rate brad pitt and christian bale as actors? because they are truly diverse. people that can entertain other people in different ways are always impressive.

one such person that has recently been whipping out his big diversity is 2112 homeboy burns. the last few months have seen him enjoy banga notoriety courtesy of his linus loves, yuksek and filthy dukes remixes, but his two new mixes showcase a side of him that few would have thought existed..

yeessss i know- another damned passion pit remix- but this one is really damned good. very bouncy and happy with synths like the northern lights.

Passion Pit - The Reeling (Burns Remix)

at first i thought that burns' take on 'we are the people' seemed a little unfinished, but then i came to really enjoy its stripped back simplicity. strong simple basslines and gently progressing synths make it very nice to listen to indeed.

Empire of the Sun - We Are The People (Burns Remix)

in my travels over the last couple of nights, i had the privilege of seeing a few drivers driving around with their lights off. are these people stupid?
my first answer was definitely yes, but after soaking these two tracks up, i admit that there might be some grey area.
seriously, d.i.m. and burns, you have made some bangtastically distracting tracks. if one of them came on when i hopped into a car, i could easily see myself getting a bit too absorbed by all the head-banging and sitting-down-dancing to worry about something as trivial as night time vehicle/motorway visibility.

Filthy Dukes - Messages (Burns Terradome Remix)

D.I.M. - Sysiphos

yep, the more i think about it the more it makes sense. these people werent stupid- they were all driving around listening to motherfuckin' bangazz.

i on the other hand can definitely be shelved under 'stupid'. spending a saturday night in watching the cricket is no way to be cool or make friends.

i havent heard from mylo in a while. after coming to australia a few years back and stealing my heart (by standing on the dj booth table and mixing between his legs) he has maintained some pretty heavy radio silence. word on the street now is that he is back in his bedroom working on an album.
will be interesting to see what he will come up with.. think that after a large chunk of the electronic music industry sucked up and assimilated his destroy rock and roll vibe, that he will have to come up with something quite radical. or just rad.

Master H feat Silicon Soul - Thirteen (Mylo Remix)

all that spiel is pretty irrelevant to this post.. seeing breastfed attached to the new linus loves track kinda reminded me about myles and made me feel like speculatin'..

so anyway- breastfed honcho mr loves has been quite busy recently with remixes popping out for the likes of J-Lake, Alphabeat and Ladyhawke.. i have to apologise though cos all of these remixes somehow slipped by me.. in steve land, linus loves has been very quiet. until now that is.

Linus Loves - Prom Night (taken down by request)

sticking to a pretty simple formula, 'prom night' is mmm-boppy d-floor fodder that takes me back to the days when 'the terrace' and 'nightmusic' walked the earth.
love the all-encompassing 8-bit keyboard and the glitchy, jittery breakdown. apparently this song was inspired by 'carrie' but i dont really see the connection between that and the original.
the burns remix is a different story though.. this blood curdling weapon of a song was definitely inspired by a girl killing people with her mind.

Linus Loves - Prom Night (Burns Remix) (taken down by request)

awesome. check out more burns here.
