sometimes life is just so hard.. two weeks working on my tan in croatia, followed by 3 days of musical intrigue at flow festival. (sighs) the only way i can conquer such misery is to spend a goodly amount of time today on the couch, soothing my over-stressed mind with some smooth beats..

mr arthur russell shouldn't need any introduction.. his classic, lo-fi sounds are perfect for all forms of couch session, and his song "make 1 2" is no different. sprinkled with horns, percussion and a gently persuasive keyboard line, "make 1 2" is doing more than just fine on my pre-pre festival drinks rotation.

big cat friday

i hate to be the guy who goes and posts two tracks lifted straight from the new aeroplane mixtape, but i guess today ill have to be the villain.. it is friday after all.

like the allez allez mixes, the aeroplane monthly chart mix is an unmissable event for me. i feel like their mixes illustrate the extent to which these guys have their fingers on the pulse. i was truly saddened to hear that they have decided to part ways - hopefully vito will keep flapping that aeroplane flag long after the release of their album ""we cant fly" in early september.

as i said, i hate to be the guy that plagiarises aeroplanes song seeking, but this months mix was an absolute standout.. and these two tracks need to be shared.

i felt like the vocals on the original version of this monarchy track were a touch over-done, but dfa honcho tim goldsworthy turned up with this superbly deep, slightly dark version which is truly excellent. and with the vocals removed, the moody strings have that much more prominence - a very good thing.

the jury is still out with ali love as far as im concerned.. sure, the hooks are addictive as hell, but his vocals are, to me - like monarchy - a little much. having said that, it is a very hard to dislike his latest remix package when names like in flagranti and bottin are involved.

i dont know why ive held onto these songs for so long. maybe i was waiting for the right moment or something. anyway, today is saturday and it really feels like a good time to unleash duncan dcup's brand new songs- which i must say are as impressive as ever.

Crazy P - Stop Space Return (DCup Remix)

the thing that impresses me most about this bunch of tracks is the growing individuality and identity that duncan is finding. i think he is really establishing his own sound and feel, and that's an exciting something indeed.

Teenagers In Tokyo - Death Rides A Horse (DCup Remix)

after playing around a little bit last year with harder forms of house, he's embraced this glamourous, classy, disco-tinged electro-funk which is seems to come a lot more naturally and definitely works amazingly well.
here also is his first solo outing, which typifies this new funky direction

so yeah. five stars mister cup. bravo sir- i cant wait to hear what pops out next.
