man this week has gone fast! slow down time! heaps of good music this week..

cutters continue their busy start to the year with a new release from ex riot in belgium/half of voltage man nile delta.
featuring two originals and a swag of remixes, i was frothily anticipating this one - but in retrospect, i should have perhaps saved my froth for something else.
'channel' which is (i think) the lead song, sounded great in the teaser video but was actually stuck in first gear.. it ended up a touch monotonous.
'all this' (the other original) fares better with it's soft pads and subtly driving bassline.. the vocals are a tiny bit irritating though. chicken lips come to the rescue with a bright, upbeat remix that beefs up the bassline and really brings this track onto the d-floor.

Nile Delta - All This (Chicken Lips Malfunction)

grab the channel/all this ep by nile delta here.

this next slice of irresistibly stuttering fun comes to us from the joined force of teams (usa) and star slinger (uk).. the smooth, yet gravelly bassline nicely matches the soulful disco and is an absolute tonic for your friday. grab a cocktail and turn off the lights.

Teams vs. Star Slinger - Life Partner

they have released a split ep which you should get into your life. find it here.

this next effort by sferro feels like a throw back to the blog haus era in all the right ways.. 80's sounding to the point where it almost feels like a kavinsky remix, this is the song to play if you want to get people up and about. so many synths my head is swimming.

Sferro - Life Partner

i came across this next piece of happiness on rrr's 'noise in my head' program hosted by michael kucyk. it is by a 70's brazilian singer named 'baby consuelo' who was rather a big thing back in those days. don't really know if you'll be into it, but it sounds very much like what the street parties in rio stand for: unadulterated joy and celebration of life. if thats what you feel like listening to, i hope you enjoy it. if you still need convincing, i could really see this track on an avalanches mix:

Baby Consuelo - Todo Dia Era Dia De Indio

happy friday!

(NOTE: fileden is a piece of shit. i definitely regret buying the space. anyway, i have moved the files to mediafire. apologies, but ive got a little bit of thinking to do about hosting and the like. if anyone has any advice, please give us a shout)

so its spring now. can you believe that it is going to be 20 degrees here on the weekend? (cant believe im getting excited over a 20 degree day.)
i cant wait for the day when ill be chilling at the beach on phillip island. shouldnt be too long right?

while i wait for some sun, it is my good fortune that there is plenty of excellent music to keep me occupied.

sydney label future classic is incessantly impressive. in many ways, they are really are the tastemakers of sydney. or at least the electronica part of it.
their latest release is one by sydney-siders loin brothers and as expected, it is superb. the original is a dense, smoky, bass driven affair with a slightly mysterious middle eastern twang to it. really really good.
when woolfy/projections grabbed the wheel though, they really pulled their feet off the accelerator and started burning some incense.. a great slow, slow burner with plenty of layers and textures. and when the vox pop their head in at around 4 minutes, it really does get blissful up in here.

Loin Brothers - Garden of Vargulf (Woolfy vs Projections Top Sirloin) (mediafire link)

grab the rest of the 'garden of vargulf' release here.

all star duo voltage have been making a good number of waves recently with their first release 'all night'. despite the quality of the original and remixes (put forward by the heavy hitting ilija rudman and azari & iii), it was the b-side of this release that impressed me the most.
'qe2' is more along the lines of a great cut copy remix with its driving, swirling synths and angelic keys. a d-floor disco bomb cunningly veiled in prettiness.

Voltage - QE2 (mediafire link)

grab a copy of qe2/all night here.

ok so ive been a little slack in getting this out, but nicolas jaar's collection of edits from a few weeks ago has been doing some serious rotation in my headphones. such a diverse range of sounds, and all executed so well. 'come n get it' is perhaps my pick of the bunch with it's thick 90's funk and solemnly ethereal keys. truly magnificent.

Nicolas Jaar - Come N Get It (mediafire link)

i have been totally sold on jaar since 'time for us' and if he keeps on releasing slow jams that are as excellent as that and 'come n get it', ill probably start sweating.
in case you havent already, head over to residentadvisor to pick up the full collection.

OMGZ. after doing a post celebrating the upcoming release of knightlife II, i managed to completely forget about it (shame on me).
so when cutters shot through an email letting us know that knightlife II had been out since the 22nd of last month, i pretty much slapped myself and sprayed my shorts at the same time.. then promptly went and downloaded & listened to it.

like i said in my earlier post, this release is a strong, confident step in a new (nu?) direction for knightlife.. cos bangin, grindin electro house is just so passe ya know?

i would really like to encourage people to go out of their way to support knightlife and cutters, so i wont post the tracks (get them here), but here is the awesome 'all systems' remix by nile delta (aka riot in belgium) which also features rather prominently on the release..

Knightlife - All Systems (Nile Delta Remix)

and if you havent got tixx for the upcoming cutters bonanza at oxford art factory- then do so here

while i wait for the blouse system to sort its fuckin' life out (mate) i thought i would regale you with an interesting tale.
this tale involves a certain mr knightlife and his return to the fold. are you getting excited yet? you damn well should be.

knightlife II comes out on may 22 and i am being led to believe that a giant release party (featuring cut copy djs and a certain dj dreamtime) is being held at oxford art factory on june 12. tickets here
snippets of said release can be heard on the cutters website and you should immediately go and treat your ears:

Treat Your Ears

with 'crusader' and 'discotirso', knightlife has taken another confident step in sunny discoland.. while the bouncy bass of 'discotirso' will defs get butts a'wigglin', the cut copy/whitford fingerprints all over 'crusader' particularly get me all red and blushy. equally good is the nile delta (aka dj belgium) remix of 'all systems' which features as part of the b side.. a new sound for him as well: breezy nudisco for miles. so good.
