am feeling pretty damned ill today, so ill try to keep this short.. am trying to pep myself up as well, so i'll also try and keep it festive.

sometimes i feel like bottin's style of disco errs a little on the heavy-handed house side of things.. at other times i feel like it is just perfect. after listening to "bottin's coup d'etat" mix of his track "discocracy", my bottin-o-meter is definitely leaning more toward the "just perfect" side.

nothing too subtle or challenging here, just a whole bunch of fun with great driving synths and a "whoa-oa" laden chorus that will get under your skin.

disco whoa

a bit of radio silence from us recently.. sorry about that! the silly season seems to really be clogging up our schedules.
in any case, there is an absolute truck load of good music doing the rounds at the moment.. a bit of quiet time has helped us to soak it all up.

the disco that ive been hearing around the shops recently has been absolutely impressive. just in time for summer really.
bot'ox's "bearded lady motorcycle show" is an absolute stand out with its grungy, sweaty sound taking its time to blossom into a breezy head-nodder thanks to some lovely, calming synths. great, great track: "highly recommended".

bottin's latest project involves a swiss vocalist curiously named joy freypong and is called 'tinpong'. i didnt mind the intimate jazz club vibe of the original, but the glamourous strut of pete herbert's dub really caught my ear. love how serious shit gets at the 3:40 mark. stabbing keys ftw.

i always thought that discodeine was limited to his little patch on the blog haus map but recently he has been proving me very wrong indeed. following hot on the heels of their superb take on rebotini's '777' is this slice of heaven called 'synchronize' featuring pulp vocalist jarvis cocker. great disco-pop ditty complete with strings, pianos and emotional vocals.. what more could you ask for?

im still trying to make my mind up about black van.. i sometimes think that their beats are a little too simplistic and undeveloped. feels like both oliver kowalski and kris menace have had to dial back their individual flair to get this vehicle moving. still, 'the calling' is a nice little piano house number with a really strong melody and deck-chair vibe. definitely worth a look:

big cat friday

i hate to be the guy who goes and posts two tracks lifted straight from the new aeroplane mixtape, but i guess today ill have to be the villain.. it is friday after all.

like the allez allez mixes, the aeroplane monthly chart mix is an unmissable event for me. i feel like their mixes illustrate the extent to which these guys have their fingers on the pulse. i was truly saddened to hear that they have decided to part ways - hopefully vito will keep flapping that aeroplane flag long after the release of their album ""we cant fly" in early september.

as i said, i hate to be the guy that plagiarises aeroplanes song seeking, but this months mix was an absolute standout.. and these two tracks need to be shared.

i felt like the vocals on the original version of this monarchy track were a touch over-done, but dfa honcho tim goldsworthy turned up with this superbly deep, slightly dark version which is truly excellent. and with the vocals removed, the moody strings have that much more prominence - a very good thing.

the jury is still out with ali love as far as im concerned.. sure, the hooks are addictive as hell, but his vocals are, to me - like monarchy - a little much. having said that, it is a very hard to dislike his latest remix package when names like in flagranti and bottin are involved.

i should still be sitting in front of my computer at work. damn. throwing two weeks worth of unfinished work on my desk and asking for it to be done by end of day is no way to make me feel happy or excited about our new offices.

i admit that i was feeling fairly guilty as i quietly escaped.. but playing this deliciously chilled piece of disco feel-goodery on the way home made me feel a lot better. thanks bottin

spaced out electro funk like this really needs to be featured on some excellent 70's styled sitcom that is set at some distant point in the future.
i really enjoy fare soldi's music, but to be honest (tbh), i once thought they were a bit of a 2-bit bedroom operation that enjoyed heavily distributing their music via blogs. seeing this proof of their powerful shoulder-rubbing with big boys like gomma wildchild rodion has changed my opinion somewhat. do you think they care?
