we've walked this path many times havent we? pre-festival excitement.. hmpf.
ive been quite miffed by the whole 'scene' of late and in my mind, festivals are the embodiment of everything i dislike about it. so apologies if this post isn't glowing with excitement.

despite all that, i dont think that even i could say that the lineup is bad at this years parklife- in fact i think most people would agree that it is superb.
i have reluctantly prepared an itinerary and i guess it goes a li'l something like this:

--arrive 3pm--

see joakim

Joakim - Watermelon Bubblicious

see junior boys

Junior Boys - Work (Prins Thomas Remix)

see aeroplane

Allez Allez - Allez Allez (Aeroplane Remix)

see erol alkan disco 3000

Late Of The Pier - The Bears Are Coming (Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve Reanimation)

see erol alkan

ZZT - The Worm (Erol Alkan Extended Rework)

maybe see tiga

Felix Da Housecat - Madame Hollywood (Tiga's Mister Hollywood Version)

hopefully it doesnt rain til much later.. a lay down in the grass would be nice at some point.

im sure you've all made your own itineraries, but in case you havent you can throw one together with the help of the parklife '09 set list.

apologies again for the lack of excitement in this post. i know that everyone else's excitement gauge is in the red, but i just can't get there. i believe that something is wrong with me.

if i was excited for anything at the moment it would have to be the impending fleetwood mac tour - and i'm not even going.

Fleetwood Mac - Isn't It Midnight?

hopefully were not all wrapped up in ponchos on sunday so we can see each other.

This coming Sunday Parklife will hit Sydney, a long weekend and celestial Spring weather. There really is no better combination to usher in the festival season. The only thing that could compare is if the moon became a strobe light on NYE. Or spun around and said something dopey.

Fellow Parklifers, there are things you should and shouldn't do this weekend. I'll illustrate.

*Cue dark synths and smoke machines* It was way back (last week), one sunny summer afternoon in a Potts Point apartment. A raving buddy and I hung our arms from the breezy window, above a fucking hipster's balcony. We smoked cigarettes like air, drank Vodka like water and debated the "way of the rave" for hours.

We discussed 'rules' for Field Day 2010, but the ideas applied to any festival. Like Confucius, my buddy's words echoed through time like planets colliding. Her name is Lauren Murada. She is also a hipster, loves Top Shop, indie-electro, will trip in heels of any height and reckons chicks go to dubstep nights to experience vibrating toilet seats. This is what she said:

"My advice would be to definitely leave your shirt on. Don't wear thongs. Invest in a pairs of Cons or High Tops. Wear sunscreen. Don't pass out before 1pm and don't wet yourself. Oh, and see the Juan Maclean."

Empire of the Sun - Standing on the Shore (Cassian Remix)

Miike Snow - Black & Blue (Tiga Remix)

La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy (datA Remix)

La Roux - In for the Kill (Diplo and Bot Edit)

Services - Element of Danger (MSTRKRFT Remix)

Late of the Pier - The Bears are Coming (Joakim Remix)

Bloc Party - Hunting for Witches (Crystal Castles Remix)

Claude Von Stroke - Who's Afraid of Detroit? (Audion Remix)

Metronomy - Not Made for Love (Joakim Remix)

The Rapture - House of Jealous Lovers (Morgan Geist Remix)

Sydney Parklife 2009 set list.

Friday, 14 November 2008

ok so usually i like to celebrate a friday with songs of the dancey variety, but seeing as though this has been one of the worst fridays on record i dont really feel like that.
instead, i would like to celebrate the songs that somehow got me through this day.

Kompis & Erlend Oye - All Ears (Erlend Oye = singer from kings of convenience)

Joakim - Drumtrax (if your in Sydney tonight go to Civic and dance with Joakim)

Chaz Jankel - Get Myself Together (what im telling myself to do)

YAY HOORAY YIPPEE

so you like that synthee indie dance that is running out of the UK like some kind of water? oohh yea you do. everyone does.

Beautiful Balloon - Lead By Example

Beautiful Balloon - Cathode Carnival

coming out of the UK, Beautiful Balloon is the newest 'it band' in this music world. actually i dont know if they are an 'it band' yet.. but they surely should be.. they've toured with metronomy, dead disco and herve and have been described as 'absolutely mindmelting' by NME, and 'startling new indie disco talent' by blouse.

im sick of all this hard fidget and electro stuff. cant people just play d-floor ready disco-indie like this? i promise the kids will dance.

also, i was going to illustrate the virtues of the imminent Joakim tour to y'all, but it seems that the ever-awesome waves at night crew beat me to it.. all you joakim fans should head on over to the article here for aussie tours dates, an interview and a bunch of mp3s..
