some horrible news reached me the other day, and i have to say that i am still pretty deep in mourning..

after five stellar years as bloggers, producers, label bosses and djs, the great steve nolan and sam willis - otherwise known as allez allez - have decided to go their separate ways.. incredibly sad news indeed.

yep.. its true.. were still down and its really starting to hurt.. sorry guys- fixing this problem on $0 budget is proving to be tricky.

until we get it fixed, ive whipped a quick, rough header so we arent just sitting on a white background. and i guess well have to resort to good old mediafire to share musics. not ideal but im sure well live through it. sorry.

ok. so- thanks to adult arts club and their amazing podcasts, i have been able to get aquainted with downtown party network..
yes, i too was dubious when i heard that they were called "downtown party network", but after a tiny bit of investigation, i discovered that they were in fact awesome.
check 'heartbreak dancing' for example- a swirling, jacking yet thoroughly cosmic disco banger..

if you are anywhere near russia or lithania, make sure you get along and see them- they are playing with morgan geist and pete herbert in successive weeks. oh yeah.

the revenge has also been getting quite a workout on my headphones recently.. aka graeme clark, the revenge is defs at the top of my favourite dusty vinyl re-editers list.. he has a real class about how he picks his tracks, and he does just enough to really bring these tracks back from the dead.. this kashif track for instance is great.. thick, classic slow burning funk that you can't really miss.

another weekend is upon us.. awesome news indeed.
of late, i have really had fun celebrating fridays by blasting the most bass-heavy tech-house tracks i could find..

this little number by alex celler cant seem to find its way off repeat on my friday playlist.. sure its damned simple and yes, maybe a touch cheesy, but the pant-rumbling, hypnotic goodness contained within the bass is usually enough to get me through to the weekend - and then some.

all-time blouse favourites allez-allez recently released their debut single/ep 'defeatist' and i have to say that- as to be expected- it is allllll class. a twitchy, nervous vibe underpinned by some seriously surging b-lines and intermittent handclaps equal awesome.
id really like to encourage you to go and check out the original (you can purchase it here), so to whet your appetite for all things defeatist, here is a remix by dorset naga.. it is a slightly more stripped back edit of the original and sheds the nervous vibe in favour of a more free-flowing, positive one..

hello rachel yes i do exist.

sorry for the radio silence.. to say that it has been busy around these parts recently would be an understatement..

mixtapes are an ideal music finding medium when short of time.. i find that having other people/djs do all the scouring for you is occasionally a nice thing.
i know ive already recommended the allez allez mixtape series, but im going to do it again. not only is it consistently awesome, but it gives me perfect segue into introducing allez allez (the band) who were from belgium in the 1980's..
they had a mini revival last year when they released their 'best of' which featured remixes by aeroplane, lindstrom & prins thomas and optimo. this little gem however, shows just how good they were in their own right.. such an influential sound..

ive been quite miffed by the whole 'scene' of late and in my mind, festivals are the embodiment of everything i dislike about it. so apologies if this post isn't glowing with excitement.

despite all that, i dont think that even i could say that the lineup is bad at this years parklife- in fact i think most people would agree that it is superb.

do you know much about allez-allez? i sure didnt. but after a few quality remixes and an awesome modular podcast mix in recent times, my curiosity was kinda piqued.. i decided to do some research.

after spending a short time convinced that they were the remnants of an 80's synth-pop band from belgium, i came across their actual site and was rather pleased with what was on offer... every week, allez-allez organise a steamy fresh collection of nu-disco, techno, indie and leftfield electronica to be thrown together by their friends and favourite artists.. some of the artists to be featured in previous weeks include etbg's ben watt, luke vibert, animal collective and tronik youth. pretty impressive huh? im 100% sure that the very next thing you should do is subscribe to their podcast.

in addition to this inexplicable awesomeness is a rad collection of re-edits that are available for free download.. on the whole, they have chosen to add a tiny bit of magic to iconic tracks, slightly reminiscent of todd terje or serge santiago i guess. there is a good range of tracks on there but i think that these two might be my fave:
