we've walked this path many times havent we? pre-festival excitement.. hmpf.
ive been quite miffed by the whole 'scene' of late and in my mind, festivals are the embodiment of everything i dislike about it. so apologies if this post isn't glowing with excitement.

despite all that, i dont think that even i could say that the lineup is bad at this years parklife- in fact i think most people would agree that it is superb.
i have reluctantly prepared an itinerary and i guess it goes a li'l something like this:

--arrive 3pm--

see joakim

Joakim - Watermelon Bubblicious

see junior boys

Junior Boys - Work (Prins Thomas Remix)

see aeroplane

Allez Allez - Allez Allez (Aeroplane Remix)

see erol alkan disco 3000

Late Of The Pier - The Bears Are Coming (Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve Reanimation)

see erol alkan

ZZT - The Worm (Erol Alkan Extended Rework)

maybe see tiga

Felix Da Housecat - Madame Hollywood (Tiga's Mister Hollywood Version)

hopefully it doesnt rain til much later.. a lay down in the grass would be nice at some point.

im sure you've all made your own itineraries, but in case you havent you can throw one together with the help of the parklife '09 set list.

apologies again for the lack of excitement in this post. i know that everyone else's excitement gauge is in the red, but i just can't get there. i believe that something is wrong with me.

if i was excited for anything at the moment it would have to be the impending fleetwood mac tour - and i'm not even going.

Fleetwood Mac - Isn't It Midnight?

hopefully were not all wrapped up in ponchos on sunday so we can see each other.

more music from the land of sad today.. cant seem to tear myself away from the quaint sounds of stars. i wanted to feature stars in the next comedown-core post but i like them too much - they are ready to have their own post i think.

if there is one song that qualifies them for the coveted comedown-core status, it would be 'going going gone'.. probably one of my favourite songs, the way the lyrics and simple chords work together to channel youthfully heartbroken emotions and feelings is somewhat breathtaking and suit my current moods to a 't'..

Stars - Going, Going, Gone

i havent been a core fan of stars since day one or anything and to be honest, going back through their older albums wasnt the earth-moving experience that id hoped it would be. the angst tinged electronica of the sad robots ep was much more up my alley. also up my alley was the remix album 'do you trust your friends?' that they released in 07.. some seriously sunny moments on it.. (despite what pitchfork reckons)

probably my favourite is this final fantasy cover of your 'ex lover is dead'.. it sits along the same lines as 'going going gone' but replaces the lush synths with cinematic pianos and strings. kind of quirky but the lyrics are again the centre-piece of this track as they trace the minor histories of a couple's failed relationship.
although the original is full of freshfaced indie folk production, the delicate pianos of this cover really emphasize the wistfulness (aka wist) of the lyrics.

Stars - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead (Final Fantasy Cover)

this next remix of 'he lied about death' was really artfully produced by metric.. has a similar cinematic feel to a lot of the avalanches or m83 remixes.. the pulsating pianos are really quite awesome.. like sun off the water.

Stars - He Lied About Death (Metric Remix)

and finally is this junior boys remix.. pretty much straight up and down junior boys so you can imagine the simplistic and down-tempo tone that this track takes.

Stars - Sleep Tonight (Junior Boys Remix)

in summary, im busting my pants waiting for the stars lp to arrive..

im not really sure that it would be fair to do a 'ladies and ladies' post without doing a 'boys and boys' post.. we try not to be sexist here at blouse...... and luckily there have been some seriously good tracks that i have come across to balance shit up yo..

ok lets organise these tracks according to how this weekend will hopefully go for me..

buzz (pumped for weekend- tracks to start exciting me)

The Mystery Jets - Girl Shaped Gun

The Mystery Jets - Two Doors Down

VHS or BETA - We Could Be One

VHS or BETA - Burn It All Down (Fred Falke Remix) cheers Waves at Night!

i love these bands to listen to whilst drinking or inflating my excitement- so happy, so disco-ee but still with plenty of edge.. i first heard of the Mystery Jets about 2 years ago on the Bang Gang mix 'cum and sweat'.. i couldnt find anything about them back then and im really stoked that they have finally made it big..
the apparent first single off their album 'Twenty One" is the Erol Alkan produced 'Two Doors Down' and while it isnt the most intelligent song it sure is funky and how good are the drums in it? possibly a dark horse club banger??
the best thing about the Mystery Jets (and the thing that seperates them from other SHITE brit-pop groups) is the way that they have embraced the whole disco thing.. synths and dance beats really complete their sound.
and what needs to be said about VHS or BETA?? disco rock at its finest. cant wait to see them.

reason why we buzz in the first place

Wolfgang Gartner - Montezuma

Classixx - Cold Act III (Wolfgang Gartner Mix)

Tim Phinn, Midnight Youth - Supernatural (Kam Denny & Paul Zala Remix)

Alex Metric - Pins

not exactly subtle or particularly edgy but what the hey.. catchy tunes are always good.. i dont know very much about any of these producers.. what i do know is that Wolfgang Gartner is BLOWING UP beatport at the moment- everything he touches seems to turns to gold.. im not exactly sure what makes his brand of electro house so much better than everyone elses but it really is. i think he must have nailed that whole hard distorted electro with a heavy dose of melodious house thing right on the head.
and despite the fact that i dont know who he is, Alex Metric really makes some tight electro rock house.. again not sure who he is but he has pumped out some pretty rad tunes.

struggles dealing with afterwards

ahh have found so much cool chilled electronic beats by the lads recently... so good.. so good to not only come down with at the beach but also to work to.

Adam K, Soha - Twilight

Kaskade - 4AM (Adam K, Soha Mix)

Junior Boys - Double Shadow

Junior Boys - Count Souvenirs

hmmm on second thoughts i think these beats would actually be good to fall asleep to after the struggle has been completed but whatevs- theyre still quality tracks..
i have heard about the junior boys around the traps now for a while without knowing who they were.. apparently the review of their last album 'So This Is Goodbye' (9/10) got posted twice on Pitchfork to emphasis how GOOD it is.. so yeah.

anyway thats all from me.. enjoy the weekend- hopefully my musical weekend will fall somewhere along these lines.
