you know one reason why a lot of people really rate brad pitt and christian bale as actors? because they are truly diverse. people that can entertain other people in different ways are always impressive.

one such person that has recently been whipping out his big diversity is 2112 homeboy burns. the last few months have seen him enjoy banga notoriety courtesy of his linus loves, yuksek and filthy dukes remixes, but his two new mixes showcase a side of him that few would have thought existed..

yeessss i know- another damned passion pit remix- but this one is really damned good. very bouncy and happy with synths like the northern lights.

Passion Pit - The Reeling (Burns Remix)

at first i thought that burns' take on 'we are the people' seemed a little unfinished, but then i came to really enjoy its stripped back simplicity. strong simple basslines and gently progressing synths make it very nice to listen to indeed.

burns: the brad pitt of electro house.

i know that a lot of you out there will have already recived, listened and moved on from passion pit's album 'manners', but i thought it was worth mentioning cos it has been officially released in the US and UK today (or so im been told).
i have to admit that michael angelakos' shrill vocals arent always my cup of tea but the music is usually fun and upbeat so i think ill let it slide. besides, it will be fun seeing everyone doing a bit of bandwagon jumping in the next few months.

in the meantime, and to celebrate the release of their album (good work kids), here are a couple of remixes done by mongrel american's wallpaper:

Passion Pit - The Reeling (Wallpaper. Remix)

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Wallpaper. Dio Remix)

there seems to be a lot of different ideas crammed into these remixes but i like it. creamy synths meet the woodwind section meet eastern sounding pianos meet booming basslines meet thumping drums. both tracks are topps az bro but i think that the marching-band-in-hammocks vibe in 'the reeling' makes it a holographic stand out.

as a bit of an extra treat, here is a remix that passion pit did for dan black which i couldnt recommend more. seriously when the 4/4 kicks in and hook up with dem synths, shit goes crazy in such a nice, clean respectable way.

Dan Black - Symphonies (Passion Pit Remix)

dan black's album drops on july 6..

Passion Pit's EP from December, Chunk of Change, was kinda shit. Mixtape vibe with Muscles written all over it. Kitsch, shouty electro-pop that is fun to sing a long to for ten seconds before its shelf life expires and the artist becomes like 100 blog years old and is no longer booked for festivals and tears Ben Lee a new one.

Exhibit A from Chunk of Change: Passion Pit - I've Got Your Number

But will Passion Pit avoid the Muscles syndrome and actually bring out an artistic and electronically imaginative debut album in May? The Reeling says so - a classy, post-disco jam from the forthcoming album Manners that goes down smooth. Hay ho brother hurry up and get your album out.

Passion Pit - The Reeling

And surely it's a good sign when someone does a bizarro avant-garde re-work of your shit, like this Emil & Friends take on another track from the forthcoming album. No one did that for Muscles. It's even more bizarre than when The Flaming Lips did that Madonnna song. Seriously, is that a harpsicord?

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Emil & Friends Reworking)

Soz muscles, lovey you, you're pretty good looking too x

it must be some sort of weird recurring theme week for me.
coming hot on the heels of my 'achingly beautiful' groundhog moment is my 'innocent and fun' groundhog moment. kinda weird.

so anyway, the most recent fun/innocent/innocently fun/funly innocent experience revolved heavily around boston kids giantess and their music

Giantess - You Were Young

Giantess - Tuff n' Stuff

when i heard 'you were young' on the radio last night i must admit that i was pretty excited cos i thought i was listening to a new bmx track. but no.. it was better than i could have imagined: i was actually listening to another strikingly similar, infectiously groovy lo-fi synth pop group..! hope they are taking over the world now. i love giantess' d.i.y. vibe but cant really work out why- is it cos they sound like they legitimately love the music they are making? i legitimately love the music they are making..

i was reading more about them at the awesome neon gold when i also found out this remix that they featured on..

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Bo Flex Remix Feat. Giantess)

hope 2k9 sees big things for giantess. the solution to the economic crisis could well be synth pop
