i dont really want to rain on the presets parade, but does anyone else think that they may be getting a bit too big for their boots? i mean sure, their music is good and they are international superstars and everything but does that excuse them for their recent spate of shit performances?
i remember times pre daft punk-nevereverland when they seemed to be genuinely stoked to be onstage and played accordingly.
times post nevereverland however are a different story.. the show at this years good vibes is a perfect example. they looked and performed as though they wanted to be somewhere else, quite a few of the songs were "stripped back" to mostly drums (which didnt work at all) and the sound was terrible (although that probs wasnt the presets fault). i ended up walking away about half way through.

i have to admit that im not too worried though, cos there seems to be quite the wave of quality indie dance coming out at the moment.. quite the wave.
melbourne group squares and zeros is part of that wave and are hangin' ten on that sucker.

rocking a finely layered and detailed sound, squares and zeros take all the parts that you love from the (newly lack-lustre) presets and present them in a newly invigorated and excited form.

Squares & Zeros - Clear

whats even more exciting is that they are working on their new lp with mr leigh evans, who managed to stay strong and work with muscles on his new album- kudos sir.
although these tracks are only demos, they show an element of slickness, confidence and surety that really grabbed my attention.

Squares & Zeros - Don't Look Down

squares and zeros are definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming months. it looks like the indie dance cavalry has arrived
although they dont appear to have any sydney shows on the horizon, they are playing around the traps in melbs a bit in march, so if your down there, show them some hearts

Squares & Zeros March Dates

11 Mar 2009 The Espy Melbourne
26 Mar 2009 The Brunswick Hotel Melbourne

in the meantime, im done with my modular and ex-modular bashing for today. better go and get a good disguise.

ok while i finish my beer- dont you think that kris menace is one of the most under-rated music people ever?

The Presets - My People (Kris Menace Remix)

Heartache - N.U.M.B. (Kris Menace Remix)

The O T Quartet - Hold That Sucker Down (Lifelike & Kris Menace Remix)

ok so maybe hes not the most underrated person ever but i think he needs to be much more famous than he is.. i think some nokia ad style personality lifting is in order

ok so my last post was taken down.. hmmmm

i guess it was cos of the sparkadia cover of the presets?? ah well if your keen to have a listen (and you should be cos its strumtastically awesome), you can go to the JJJ website here and check it out. DAMN. (its really annoying getting posts taken down.)

here are the ulrich schnauss tracks that i posted yesterday..

the point that i was making yesterday was that ulrich schnauss has a very similar sound to m83.. same floaty, ethereal qualities but is somehow more happy and uplifting.

Ulrich Schnauss - Between Us And Them

Ulrich Schnauss - Look At The Sky

he also does remixes! this is his remix of US band Asobi Seksu which is rad..

Asobi Seksu - Strawberries (Ulrich Schnauss Remix)

and asobi seksu rate pretty high on the radometer as well:

Asobi Seksu - Mary & Me

for all those who missed my post yesterday im sorry that this post didnt reach the same wordy heights- re-writing posts isnt all its cracked up to be.

if my assumption was wrong and it was the asobi seksu or ulrich schnauss tracks that incurred the wrath of someone then PLEASE EMAIL ME and i will remove the them.

so its 530 on a drunken friday and ive just got back to work from the pub and have utterly failed in my attempt to play xbox.. what do i want to listen to? glittery + shiny australian dance muzax?

i (think) that it is pretty well known news that aussie megastars bang gang are going to drop their double cd delight on us this weekend (on sat 25th oct aka tomorrow to be precise.. pick it up here).. to tickle and arouse us, they have sent over this mix that they have done of the presets

The Presets - Kicking and Screaming (Bang Gangs E is for Edit)

in the email there was certainly mention of dimensioneering and even some trance travel.. i was a bit dubious as to the levels of said dimensioneering or trance travel that this song could achieve, but im pleased to announce that after listening to this track that, at the very least, this track has been transformed into a bonafide club banger.. not radically different from the original but enough to make me do a bit of chair-ass jiggling.

i dont know what its like for people overseas (or if you guys even know WHO sneaky are), but sneaky sound system are one of the most uncool groups in australia at the moment.. it might be a bit of a shit thing to say, but sneaky are currently the personification of what it means to go from cool underground to uncool commercial..
and what makes it worse is that its probably not their fault- hell, their musics probably not that bad. its mostly just hearing their songs blaring out of every speaker everywhere and seeing seriously wack people going crazy. im sure they dont care though.. their millions are probably distracting them rather nicely. bastards.

try as i might, the remixes of "when we were young" that have been entering the market are very hard to dislike.
i think breakbot's glitchy/chilled/breakbotty take on the whole thing was the first to float around, but now monsieur GLOVES has thrown his chips on the table with his view on this whole sneaky thing

Sneaky Sound System - When We Were Young (GLOVES Remix)

this remix definitely steps things up a little- but only a little.. there is definitely a throbbing electro undertone underneith there somewhere but mostly it is calmed by the lush slappish bass and synths that are laid over the top of it blanket style..
this remix follows on from his last remix of van she with his development of maturity and track structure.. very impressed lad

finally is mobin master from melb.. he sent in this remix of... (does anyone know the track?).. i know ive heard it on a bang gang podcast at some point in the past..

Mobin Master & Hess - Glitter Bomb (Bootleg)

anyhoo.. its a nice smoky oldschool rock track thats been changed to an interesting club ornament.. def work cheking out

so yeah thats me for today.. have a good weekend yall talk soon

here is the new video for the presets..

The Presets - Talk Like That

i reckon this song was definitely one of my favourite songs off apocalypso.. the video itself isnt as awesome as the one for 'this boys in love' or 'my people' but still interesting.. i do wonder what its all about though..

in other news go and check out this underwater photography.. what a good way to kill like 5-10 mins

busy-ness has occured for all wearing a blouse this weekend.. good busy-ness.. the kind where many drinks are consumed, many bumping tracks are dropped and many hours of sleep lost. mmmmm..

one thing i love- but know my girlfriend must hate- is me thinking out loud about the songs that i thought went well in one of my sets.. "hmmm i reckon "_______" went off!!! dont you???" blaaaaaaaa. must be annoying.

Wolfgang Gartner - Killer

Sono - A New Cage (Digitalism Mix)

Xinobi - BMX (Moulinex Mix) ive already posted this but cos it is fire ill post it again

Praise be to all y'all that shared funs with me and the rest of the blouse crew wherever we happened to be (in particular to those at Bamboozled, Exposed or Big Guns)

Hmmm must rush off but thought but thought id throw two awesome Headman remixes your way- the Ricky D mix is straight up stockholm quality baby

Headman - Catch Me If U Can (Bagraiders Mix)

Headman - Catch Me If U Can (Ricky D Fast Lane Mix)

PS i know this has been floating aroung blogton for a while now but i got it sent 'specially to me and would feel bad if i didnt post it cos its pretty rad

The Presets - Are You The One (Lifelike Mix)

wow what a (busy) way for the week to start after such a jampacked weekend

Monday, 7 April 2008

Monday, 7 April 2008

ok super rushed post for today.. for once im busy at work.. apologies- hopefully ill be able to snake a bit of time to make a better post sooooonnn.

FIRSTLY- super excited about the new presets album- ive started to have smashed song recollections from various festivals as ive started to hear more and more songs off Apolcalypso- hilarious.
its true that you can listen to the entire album on the presets myspace page but you should really truck on over to hyperbole site to catch some awesome preset mp3ness.. so impressed with everything ive heard..

..and seen apparently- the clip for 'this boys in love' is amazement. check check

as a sidenote, last week i went down to semi-permanent which was awesome.. as lame as it sounds i actually do feel inspired/enlightened.. also a bit sick but im not sure that semipermanent had anything to do with that.. it was funny watching a smashed anthony lister literally waving goodbye to the audience as he held up a voice recorder playing roger ramjet to his mic.. whilst not the most interesting speech, the directors bureaus work was really interesting.. i was hoping to post up a really confronting clip by an unknown artist of people crying but cant seem to find it so here are two others that are really nice- if your into designy stuff/cinematography/music/videos/life/death.

Blonde Redheads - 23

Feist - I Feel It All
*apparently theres a part in this where Feist gets hit in the eye with fireworks and starts running around- keep eyes peeled*

for everyone into a bit of French house (which is everyone in the world), Waves at Night has just run an awesome interview with Fred Falke and posted some mad remixes that i hadn't ever heard before.. always nice when that happens.. go and check these beats out cos they are off the heezy yo..

whilst im safely tucked away in my post V fest stupor please enjoy these awesome videos that ive stumbled over today.. not the only thing ive stumbled over.. sleeping in the park at lunch has never been sooooo good.

This is another piece of nevereverland genius.. this time from the Presets- i seriously cant get over the crowd reaction in the two
modular nevereverland videos that ive come across. people were clearly having fun. f-u-n.
the presets played an amazing set at daft punk, and when they played 'my people' i reckon sydney probably sunk a couple of metres because of the large amount jumping that occured. why do people jump when they dance? hmmm......

to get a bit of a sneaker peeker into the presets new album go and have a look at Waves At Night

I just got this 'hook up' from modular as well.. its pretty cool- if you thought that your attempts at making music by blowing into bottles at parties were good you should check this out.
word around the campfire is that it will be part the 'video mix up' that Cut Copy are throwing together after the popularity of their so cosmic mix.. welllll i think you should be the judge of that

haha how obscene is the screen shot that youtube has used

i think the truth ACTUALLY is that I want to be in that pool RIGHT NOW- even if the water is white and filled with men. damn the terrible monday.. im not sure that tomorrow will be any better either.

Thursday, 27 March 2008

to the people in this photo- im sorry for adding it i needed a photo like this and randomly saw it
in my mind i had planned to do an ultra mega v fest post tomorrow but instead im gonna be rad and do one now.. i think i might be a little too excited to wait a WHOLE day to post up v related tracks.. it certainly will be a fun day- but whats with the wack peeps up in v headquarters putting the headlining acts on at the same time at the end? huh? lame.

anyway i think we'll find a way to get around this and have a fun time. just like this

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Just Like Honey

Duran Duran - Save a Prayer

The Presets - Go Hard, Go Home (Ascii Disko Remix)

Air - Mer Du Japon (Kris Menace Remix)

Donnie Sloan - Call You Up!

Donnie Sloan - System

The Rakes - We Danced Together (sebastiAn mix)

And cos i apparently love her:

(Harder)

Roisin Murphy - Overpowered (Herve & Roisin In The Secret Garden Mix)

Roisin Murphy - You Know Me Better (Trevor Loveys Remix)

(Less Harder)

Roisin Murphy - Overpowered (Kris Menace Remix)

Roisin Murphy - You Know Me Better (Nightmoves Mix)

Roisin Murphy - Let Me Know (Joey Negro's Destination: Boogie Remix)

Whoa... i DID NOT just post 12 tracks... damn kid.

as an added treat- you should go and download Munk and Flosstradamus' mixes from the bang gang podcast site (sorry think there might be a recurring theme here.. no we are not sponsored by the bang gang but would seriously consider any funds that they would like to send our way...) they are well wicked and might convince you to go and see them. ps was i the only one that only just noticed that there was a stage called the 'virgin mobile venue' cos the table for that is in white?!?

bonus: might be a bit 6 degrees of seperation action but here is

Kid Sister - Pro Nails (Bagraiders mix)

cos it was on Flosstradamus' mix for bang gang and it rocks out- especially after the drop (at 3 mins). Like everyone on sat that will be at V fest. woot.

self serve
....

something that us here at blouse cant do at the moment.. weve had to remove my last fews mp3 posts as well so now there are no tracks available on here.. please excuse our ongoing problems.. they shall be fixed ASAP..

in the meantime here are some things to keep you trucking along this friday...

here is a clip that i recieved from modular via the toones of cut copy playing "Heatrs on Fire" at daft punk in Sydney... seriously sent shivers. how awesome is the part where the cymbals are smashed with the guitar?? *in numerical value= 10. i reckon the best part though is the quick clip at the end of them sitting and drinking the next day.. (or before)..

also... remember this song?? loved it in about year 9... the video was cool as well. i saw them at Big Day Out two.. or maybe three years ago now and damn i was disappointed.. it was one of their birthdays and boy were they all seriously seriously munted.. and they had giant rabbits (or some other form of cartoon animal) dancing on stage with them with giant beach balls. Admittedly Pnau did something similar recently with their BDO tour- but gerling somehow made it seem so very very tacky.
still, good song though.

for da trax goodness that we are unable to provide all y'all with at the moment, i point you to waves at night where you can download a glimpse at the new presets album called "This Boys in Love"- quality track. go there. get it. get epicced.

for all of you in canberra come along to Exposed- shall be a night of fun and festivities where i shall be joined in an attempt to master the wheels of steel by Staky (congrats on getting to the Pang finals mate!), Terrorvision, Kissoff, Da Duchess, Beat It and the one and only Aston Shuffle! yay!

huzzah!!

if your thinking of leaving your workplace anytime soon and are going to be having a farewell party and happen to be living in sydney and work near the Rocks, then please consider having your farewell at Strike Bowling Bar - who would of thought that bowling would be a good way to say goodbye??? well. it is.

Have a great weekend hooray its friday again!!

Welcome to the blouse videodrome.

we've seen some aussie video gold over the past few days and felt an uncontrollable need to post it up shaquille o'neill style..

so here they are

first up is the NEW NEW NEW Cut Copy single "Lights and Music".. not sure about the video OR the song.. it seems kind of bare.. its like its missing something.. but like most cut copy things im sure it will grow on me in the biggest way..

Also peep the two remixes that accompany the single.. pretty chilled considering the artists that made them.. think the boyz noize mix is the pick fo' sho'

Cut Copy - Lights and Music (Superdiscount mix)
Cut Copy - Lights and Music (Boyz Noize mix)

yes, we know that 'My People' has been around for yonks now but holy crap is it awesome.. so awesome in fact that we felt a similar uncontrollable need to post like the one we had before- this time though we modelled our post-up need on Charles Barkley, NBA JAM T.E. style.
This video is amazing.. give it a chance at the start and you'll see why..

also in case you haven't, take a peep at this.. destroying.

The Presets - My People (DIM mix)

we love australia here at blouse. australian artists really are awesome.
