how nice it is to have time to think again.. and what better way to spend that time but by digging through my inbox. a couple of excellent toe-tappers landed in my lap today actually.. perfect hump day music.

nôze have been relatively quiet of late, with a only a handful of remixes and guest appearances popping up.. things are likely to change though as they have just released their anticipated fourth album 'dring' on get physical.
ive only just got my hands on it, but i've really enjoyed what i have heard so far. far from being a dance album, 'dring' actually sounds like the soundtrack to your friends musical theatre production from last saturday. an incredibly warm vibe surrounds this album - and the diverse instrumentals and crazy humour only add to the experience.
there are a couple of real upbeat moments on 'dring' though.. take the accordion sampling fun of album closer 'marabout' for instance. dramatic tinkling gives way to a driving accordion backbone and horns. funny lyrics too..

god bless nat from burnt waffles - he sure does know his music. i hit him up today for some recommendation and ended up almost doubling my music library.
amongst the fire that he sent my way was a bunch of new four tet and caribou (including that collaboration that they recently completed with thom yorke) that i had somehow missed.
this four tet track 'pinnacles' really caught my ear as it was particularly banging - especially for a four tet production.
really into this track - it is made to a simple formula, but boy does the formula work. warbling double bass, moody piano interludes and nice ornamental guitar work on top:

apologies AGAIN for the radio silence on my end.. working 10+ hour days for weeks on end isnt the best when youre also trying to do some blogging.
my days are looking much clearer now thought, so here i am: back again.

large portions of idm and deep electronica have helped me get through the maniacal past few weeks.
starring members of my idm drive were para one and tacteel, who showed up with this mix for kitsune upstarts jupiter.
for a number of reasons, this track wasnt what i expected - chiefly because the last time i heard para one (which was quite a while ago), he was cranking out some serious bangers. here he has turned up with a song that is the very definition of a slow-burner.. one that oozes style, sex and sophistication. it even has a little acid detour. strongly recc'd!

pantha du prince is another that has been on high rotation of late. his atmospheric, finely crafted minimal and tech house always hits the spot.
so i was pretty happy to find the black noise remix album 'xi versions of black noise' inside my inbox the other day. im not going to say too much about it before i have had a proper listen, but early indications are that this may be one of the best remix albums in recent memory.
this four tet version stuck with me straight away.. light, ethereal vibe, interesting percussion and good use of the vocals.. so so good!

so. im back. and do you think im happy about that? NO.

whilst i try to keep myself from sobbing at the thought of being back in the land of the bogan, please enjoy these amazing new(ish) tracks by my hero-of-the-moment, mr kieran hebden (aka four tet).. he is probably the only thing between me and taxi-driver styled violence right now.

the restrained, elegant landscape of 'moth' is an absolute stand-out. burial's attention to each reverby detail, coupled with such a strong melodic backbone make this wintery slow-burner a must.. even on a hot beach day in bondi.

'sing' is lifted off four tet's most recent album 'there is love in you'.. it was one of the most lusted after tracks from his epic 'much love to the plastic people' mix and i can see why.. joyful bleepy electronica that is as much at home on your shower radio as it is at a beach volleyball competition in rio.
