apologies AGAIN for the radio silence on my end.. working 10+ hour days for weeks on end isnt the best when youre also trying to do some blogging.
my days are looking much clearer now thought, so here i am: back again.

large portions of idm and deep electronica have helped me get through the maniacal past few weeks.
starring members of my idm drive were para one and tacteel, who showed up with this mix for kitsune upstarts jupiter.
for a number of reasons, this track wasnt what i expected - chiefly because the last time i heard para one (which was quite a while ago), he was cranking out some serious bangers. here he has turned up with a song that is the very definition of a slow-burner.. one that oozes style, sex and sophistication. it even has a little acid detour. strongly recc'd!

pantha du prince is another that has been on high rotation of late. his atmospheric, finely crafted minimal and tech house always hits the spot.
so i was pretty happy to find the black noise remix album 'xi versions of black noise' inside my inbox the other day. im not going to say too much about it before i have had a proper listen, but early indications are that this may be one of the best remix albums in recent memory.
this four tet version stuck with me straight away.. light, ethereal vibe, interesting percussion and good use of the vocals.. so so good!

dos days

most of us now have only two or three days left in our working year.. how exciting is that! just need some nice weather and my life will be complete.
this ease into the break is really quite enjoyable. the only thing i have been doing at work (except playing games on my iphone) has been chilling to smooth as shit disco and electronica.. yeah!

one artist that i would not have expected smooth as shit electronica from is siriusmo. i am slowly learning to not try and put him into a box.
in contrast to the last track of his that we posted on here ('die rockwurst' which was a quirky, floor shattering electro-step bangor), 'mbox' has a refined veneer. its smooth, slightly urban feel and dam-funk flavoured bassline have really provided a great soundtrack for my work 'plants vs zombies' session today.

i tried to find more info on the 'hot box/mbox' release that 'mbox' was lifted from, but couldnt really see much out there. if you should somehow encounter the other side from this release, 'hotbox', i would heartily recommend giving it a go as well. slightly more upbeat and probably more suited to your christmas festivities.

im not sure how 'lina' - aka the lead single from toro y moi's side project 'les sins' - found its way into my itunes, but im sure glad it did. sheer disco wizardry from the chillwave man.
'youth gone' is the b-side from 'lina' and is a track that i have really been enjoying today. after a bit of an offbeat start, it takes turn for the good when its scuzzy, atmospheric and sample heavy face is revealed. i actually find it quite reminiscent of the avalanches.. which is pretty much the best endorsement i can give a song.

Les Sins - Youth Gone (alt)

i have to admit that i was initially attracted to trujillo's "baby you're still the same" for the mark e remix, but the original really got in there and stole my love. songs like this seem to be to turning up on blouse all too often these days: smooth, yacht-disco that slowly grows into itself with some nice, subtle instrumental work. a bad thing? i think not.

One of the Rubicon DJs informed me last week that Siriusmo was his new favourite artist in the entire world. 'True story' he said. Who the fuck is Siriusmo? 'Some German dude who I reckon can play any style of music in the world - give him anything and he'll do it' he said. We then debated whether we prefer to use the harbour bridge or the harbour tunnel. I said tunnel because it's quicker. He disagreed and said bridge because it was more scenic and more opportunity to exceed the speed limit. In the case of either collapsing though, you would rather be in the tunnel because there is no impact upon falling - correct? Fuck the bridge.

Siriusmo is playing as I drive across the bridge the next day and it's pretty fucking cool. That night, I go on his MySpace and flashlights and explosions - Vor Der Teur hits me like the fucking big bad wolf, fresher than any of the boring shit I might have seen when my eyes happened to roll into place at Future Music last weekend. It's so angry, I love it. Then Last Dear - discoey, groovey, oozes cool like your mum, it's a vixen. There's stuff that puts the Ed-banger elitist crew to shame, stuff that would upstage John Travolta at the discotheque. Rubicon has converted me - the cabbage muncher is a genius.

Big Day In

i 'love' the endless Big Day Out related jokes and puns this time of year. hilarious. that being said however, it was somewhat more than a semi-large day out.
I'll keep the Big Day Out review short and sweet. Battles absolutely blew my mind- way better than i imagined. All three guitarists simultaneously played guitars and either keyboards or EQs/amps while the drummer absolutely destroyed it from the front of the stage. Rage was pretty damned awesome- despite the inevitable near-death experiences in the mosh- as were Spoon and Pnau.

i don't want to sound all sappy or anything -BUT- for me, music is most powerful (and therefore good) if it reminds me of good (or bad) times- like dancing like a fool to Axwell's "Feel the Vibe" or Jan Driver's "Ladies Want It" at Lot 33 in Canberra when i was just a wee tucker.
im sure thats obvious to everyone, but hey it was something i felt like saying. Also gives me some good segue into introducing the next songs which are by German producer Siriusmo.
on Sunday morning after a Big Night Out *chuckles*, me and Rach were introduced to this fella by some another blouse. At the time it was perfect music because it wasnt sleepy chilled and wasnt raging electro (it was somewhere inbetween yo).
So now, this Mr Siriusmo will eternally remind me of a very trashy morning indeed.
